National Volunteer Week April 18-24

Volunteers are an essential part of the African Well Fund team. We rely on volunteers to hold, organize and run various fundraising events in their area throughout the year as well as to help raise awareness for the African Well Fund by distributing literature. Every event impacts the lives of Africans who benefit from the wells built and as such, each event is a valued part of the African Well Fund’s fundraising plan.

We'd like to take this opportunity to recognize our volunteers through out this past year and thank them for their indispensable contribution to the African Well Fund.

The volunteers will each receive a certificate of achievement from the African Well Fund.
Ann Storey
I am a student attending Western Washington University.
I will graduate this December with a degree in Recreation (yes, it is a real major).

I first heard about the AWF from an email sent out to an online U2fanclub. I had recently had the amazing opportunity to attend the Oprah show that Bono appeared on and talked about the emergency facing Africa. Needless to say that when an opportunity came along for me to be directly helping those who needed it I was more than happy to help out. I knew that water was essential to Africa improving its situation so I was very excited.

I knew that the group would be successful and we would raise money but to be honest I didn't know that we would raise so much so quickly. I am proud to be part of a team of such dedicated individuals. I feel honored to be one of the people who got this whole thing started and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them and praise their efforts.

It's great to know that what we are doing directly helps people who only months ago didn't have fresh water. There is so much that I once took for granted and now I am more grateful for a hot shower in the morning than I ever have been.

Debbie Lamb

I'm 36 years old from Cleveland, Ohio. I'm a fan of U2since 1982, when I first saw the "Gloria" video on MTV. I've been hooked ever since. I am actually a huge fan of music in general as there has always been some sort of music in my life. I love meeting U2 fans and I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to meet many U2 fans in the past 3 years because of concerts, the many events in the past year in Cleveland and just traveling to meet people. U2 fans truly are the best people ever!!!

Claudio O. Espinosa

Claudia is originally from Tijuana, Mexico. She is currently living in Iowa City, while attending the University of Iowa while she completes her PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Claudia's line of research is in water quality issues, specifically the changes over time on the water quality of lakes and rivers due to agricultural practices and land use
changes. Claudia's interest in water issues stems from growing up near the ocean. Her love of the ocean lead her to become an oceanographer and to the U.S. in order to round out her education. She enjoys scuba diving, swimming, old movies, reading, traveling and of course U2. Her favorite quote is "El respeto al derecho ajeno es la paz" (The respect of others rights is peace) from former Mexican President D. Benito Juarez.
