For
the fourth year in a row, the African Well Fund is pleased
to announce plans for a fundraising drive to " Build
a Well for Bono's Birthday ".
From
March 22nd through May 6th, the African
Well Fund invites U2 fans and others who are inspired
by Bono's tireless activism on behalf of Africa to make
a donation in honor of Bono's birthday on May 10th.
Your donation in the amount of $100, $75, $40,
or whatever you can afford, will go a long
way in helping to provide clean water for the people
of Africa.
Donations from the three previous campaigns totaled
over $50,000 and
have been used by our partner Africare to fund well
projects in Uganda, Ethiopia and Angola making a significant
difference in the lives of the people who live there.
This year donations will be used to fund water projects
in Zimbabwe. New wells will be constructed and old wells
that have fallen into disrepair will be rehabilitated
at a cost of $500 to $1500 per site. Check the AWF Wells

year we will be collecting messages and signatures of
donors online to send to Bono on May 10th. After donating

This
year, the African Well Fund has two additional ways
to participate in the birthday fundraiser. The first
is through the purchase of a t-shirt featuring the winner
of our recent t-shirt design contest. Over 50 entries
were received and with much difficulty a winning entry
was chosen. The t-shirts featuring the selected design
will be available for a limited time at our
Cafe Press shop. Proceeds from the
sales of these shirts ($4.00 per shirt) will be added
to the birthday fundraiser total.
The
birthday fundraiser will also be the beneficiary of
a special EBay auction entitled PHOTOS4 //
BBW4 . Beginning April 17th, U2 fans will
have the opportunity to bid on U2 concert photos donated
by some very talented U2 fans. Check back for more
