Members of the African Well Fund’s board of directors will be attending Africare’s 2013 Bishop John T. Walker Memorial Dinner Gala April 20 in Washington, D.C. The event will celebrate President Barack Obama, who donated $100,000 from his Nobel Peace Prize award to Africare for a WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) project in Ghana. Mo Ibrahim, founder of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, and organization that invests in governance and leadership to catalyze Africa’s transformation, will be presented with the Bishop John T. Walker Leadership Award at the gala.
The Africare Bishop John T. Walker Memorial Dinner Gala is the nation’s largest annual fund raising event for Africa. Bishop Walker served as board chairman at Africare and as the first African-American Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, D.C., where he distinguished himself as an exemplar of peace, justice and interracial harmony.
