This year’s fundraiser has drawn to a close and the African Well Fund is thrilled to announce the grand total of
$26,457.92!
Due to the generosity of U2 fans from all over the world, this year’s total tops the previous two years combined. A good portion of the total was raised through the efforts of @U2 and three U2 tribute bands; Southern California based The Joshua Tree, San Francisco’s Zoo Station and Boston’s The Joshua Tree Band. Their combined efforts raised more than $4,800 towards the total.
Two of AWF’s board members were able to speak to Bono at the recent book signing in Boston. Informed of this year’s total, Bono expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the work that AWF does and was genuinely touched by the generosity of U2 fans. A Well Share Certificate for the total collected as well as a booklet of your compiled birthday greetings has been sent to Bono via Principle Management.
This year’s donations will be used to fund water projects in Angola. Seven springs have been identified for protection in the Trumba communa in Kuito, one of which will serve a school and health center. Please visit our website for updates on these projects. While there, be sure to check out the updates for the 2003 and 2004 Bono Birthday Well projects.
The African Well Fund would like to thank all those who donated or contributed their time to this year’s fundraising effort. Your generosity has been unprecedented. If you missed this year’s fundraiser and would still like to donate, it’s not too late. The African Well Fund accepts donations year round. For more details, please visit www.africanwellfund.org.
